Philadelphia group dating startup Mixter matches undergraduate and graduate students through fun gatherings between two groups, according to The Daily Pennsylvania.

Co-founder Lawrence Cole said: "Mixter is a social club that tries to ease a lot of pain in meeting new people. It takes away some of the anxiety and risk of first date since it's not necessarily a date."

Instead of setting up a blind date between two individuals, Mixter sets up a gathering between two groups composed of three men and three women. Registered groups first need to submit their preferences for their dates. The site uses both algorithm and human opinion to match groups. In addition, members can be provided with a free match if they are not satisfied with the first one. The startup earns $10 for every matching process done, the report detailed.

Mixter currently caters to students in the Philadelphia region. It is eyeing an expansion in the US beginning with Boston, The Daily Pennsylvania reported.
