Turkey banned social media platform Twitter in the country, according to earlier reports. However, there might have been a breakthrough as the block on Twitter is not working anymore. It was previously reported that users cannot access their accounts due to a prompt message redirecting them to the country’s telecommunications regulator saying a court ruling has been issued for “protective measures” resulting the ban.

Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan did not like tweets which posted alleged corruption in his circle causing him to announce “wipe out of Twitter”. The government said it has sent a court ruling to Twitter to remove certain links but the social media network gave no response.

Meanwhile, the Twitter ban in Turkey has not stopped the tweets coming from the Turkish society. People had started using an alternative DNS service allowing them to continue tweeting on the social media site. In fact, tweets in the country rose up by 138% according to Brandwatch and We Are Social.

Turkish Twitterers responded to ban through SMS service in the best way possible: endless stream of mocking memes of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
