San Francisco, California-based Apportable secured $5 million from investors and renown innovators in the technology space to close its most recent funding round. Investors for the round included Paul Buchheit, Jerry Yang and Alexis Ohanian. Buchheit is the creator of Gmail while Yang co-founded Yahoo. Ohanian is one of the founders of Reddit and a partner at Initialized Capital. Shoucheng Zhang, an early investor of VMware and physicist at Stanford, also contributed to the financing through Danhua Capital, his newly-minted investment company, a statement about the funding said.

The most recent funding round brought to $7.4 million the total funds raised so far by the mobile technology firm. Its other backers include Initialized Capital, Google Ventures, Morado Ventures, Y Combinator and others. Ohanian contributed $2.4 million to Apportable's seed round last year.

Apportable provides a platform that allows app and game developers to create very responsive apps for the widest number of users possible. Since it permits the Objective-C code to be run on Android devices, developers no longer have to come up with and maintain different versions of a particular game or application. Apportable Co-Founder and CEO Collin Jackson said in the statement, "We've spent more than three years tackling one of the biggest problems facing the development community. Our technology lets developers compile their entire iOS app to run on Android."

The Apportable compiler, the company's first product, enables developers to cross-compile Objective-C apps to Android without having to undertake a lot of amendments to the codebase. Development teams like Pocket Games, Bjork and Wooga are already using the company's technology to bring to Android top titles from iOS.

Apportable has been a participant of StartX since Fall last year. StartX is a nonprofit in Silicon Valley affiliated with Stanford that manages one of the top startup accelerator programs in the world, the statement said.
