Belgium's Arseus exits healthcare supplies business to Henry Schein for €50M

Belgium-based healthcare group Arseus has divested some small units of its healthcare supplies business to Henry Schein Inc, a US-based group for a price tag of €50 million or $68.07 million. Arseus provides products, services and concepts to healthcare professionals and institutions in 30 countries around the world. It is made up of four divisions that has operations in pharmaceutical compounding for pharmacies, dental products, medical and surgical products and medical ICT-solutions.

Henry Schein, meanwhile, is the world's biggest provider of healthcare products and services to office-based dental, animal health and medical practitioners. A Fortune 500 Company, it is also a member of the NASDAQ 100 Index. It is headquartered in Melville, New York.

The sale included Arseus Dentals software Julie, Arseus Dental Lab, Arseus Dental Solutions Benelux and Arseus Dental Solutions France Ouest. The divested units represent yearly sales of about €70 million, Arseus said in a statement.The company added that as of January 1 this year, the activities were considered deconsolidated.

In August last year, Arseus said its Board of Directors had begun analyzing its strategic options for its Healthcare Solutions and Healthcare Specialties divisions. The agreement is an important step to finalize the process, the statement said.

Arseus Chief Executive Officer Ger van Jeveren said in the statement, "We are convinced that the dental distribution, lab and software activities will contribute to the future growth and expansion of Henry Schein's European dental presence. This transaction enables Arseus to continue to invest in its global roll out of the Fagron activities, to further develop Corilus and to focus on the successful execution of its innovation strategy to create concepts and solutions with substantial added value."

Arseus also said that the sale of its French dental distribution activities in Paris, Lille and Lyon to MS Distribution which was made public on November 7 last year has already been closed.
