Forum Communications Co has entered an agreement to acquire Brainerd Dispatch along with other newspaper assets located within the north-central Minnesota region. Forum Communications is the owner of The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead, wrote News Observer. The Forum reported that the acquisition deal is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2014. Forum Communications is purchasing the said media properties from Augusta, Georgia-based media company Morris Communications, the report said.

Forum Communications is presently based in Fargo, North Dakota. The multimedia information firm owns dozens of television stations, radio stations, and newspapers. These media properties are scattered across North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, the report detailed.

According to Forum Communications board Chairman Bill Marcil Sr, the Brainerd acquisition is an ideal addition to the company's regional presence, the report.

Based on online historical resources, the Crow Wing County, Minnesota-based Brainerd Dispatch published its very first newspaper edition in December 1881, News Observer reported.
