San Mateo, California-based AlienVault has closed its Series D funding round with $30 million. GGV Capital led the round, which was first announced in September. It was participated in by Intel Capital, Trident Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Sigma West, Adara Venture Partners, Top Tier Capital and Correlation Ventures.

AlienVault is a Unified Security Management or USM solution provider. The company's USM platform is a cost-effective way for organizations with limited budget and security personnel to fulfill their need compliance and threat management needs. Since the necessary security controls are built in, USM makes security easy and manageable for smaller security teams. In order to enable security professionals to link with their peers and know more about the most recent threats and defensive tactics from experts in the industry, AlienVault has started the open and collaborative initiative called the Open Threat Exchange.

Proceeds from the latest round will be used to continually scale the company's global sales and marketing efforts. It will also allow AlienVault to invest more in product innovation while growing its OTX platform which currently has over 8,000 contributors from 140 countries and counting.

Maurits Tichelman, GM of Intel's Reseller Channel Organization said AlienVault's USM platform aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises gives a comprehensive but affordable security solution. He added, "We look forward to introducing AlienVault to our global network of 150,000 Intel Technology Providers who can provide unique key services, a Managed Security Service Platform, and distribution of the AlienVault Security offering to their customer base."

AlienVault President and Chief Executive Officer Barmak Meftah lauded the participation of Intel Capital in the most recent funding round. He said in a statement, "This is a great strategic extension of our Series D round. Intel Capital brings with it knowledgeable insights and a robust network of technology innovators and channel partners that will enable AlienVault to reach the broad mid-market even more quickly and innovate in ways that make threat prevention, detection and response easier to afford and achieve."
