Netflix Inc said it had high hopes that an agreement with Comcast Corp and other pay television companies would be agreed upon soon. The deal had to do with Netflix offering its streaming services through cable set-top boxes.

In a video webcast, Netflix Chief Executive Officer Reed Hastings told analysts, "I'm really hopeful we can do that with Comcast and others in the industry." Netflix had announced in September that it had already reached agreements with Swedish pay television company Com Hem and British firm Virgin Media. Their subscribers would be able to watch Netflix's streaming shows and movies using an app. They did not have to use another device to do so.

Hastings told Reuters in an interview that he would like to come up with similar agreements with US cable operators next year. Reuters reported that the firms had been wary of the competition that Netflix and similar companies would give to them.
