According to a Reuters report, the attrition rate of social media site Twitter would pose a risk for those who would be investing in the company when it goes public. From October 11 to October 18, Reuters/Ipsos surveyed 1,067 people who have joined Twitter. The poll showed that 36% of the respondents did not use the service. Moreover, 7% of those surveyed went a step further and shut down their accounts.

Those who have decided to quit Twitter gave various reasons. Two of these included lack of friends using the social network and difficulty understanding how to use the service. According to Reuters, Twitter still has yet to go mainstream even if it had already enlisted high-profile individuals like the Pope and President Barack Obama to use the online messaging platform.

AlphaOne Capital Partners Chief Investment Officer told Reuters, "Twitter is a great service, it's still got growth in front of it. But in my opinion, I would say the opportunities are less than that of Facebook, and it has to be valued appropriately."
