A report from the Canadian newspaper the Globe and Mail said that a former CEO of Apple Inc was considering a bid for BlackBerry Ltd. Citing unnamed sources, the report said John Sculley was thinking of bidding for the smartphone maker together with Canadian partners.

Sculley did not comment further on the matter but said, "The only thing I would say is, I think there's a lot of future value in Blackberry. But without experienced people who have run this type of business, and without a strategic plan, it would be really challenging."

Last month, a buyout consortium led by Fairfax Financial Holdings announced that it had made a USD 9 per share tentative offer for BlackBerry. Various sources also told Reuters that BlackBerry was talking with companies like Google and Cisco Systems about a possible sale of the company as a whole or in part. Another potential buyer was China-based Lenovo Group.
