Brazilian biomass powered construction company, Energias Renovaveis de Brasil Ltda had entered into an agreement to construct a BRL237 million plant in Minas Gerais State. The power plant would be located inside a Dow Chemical Co ethanol production project and would be fueled by the residue from the ethanol extraction from sugar cane.

The plant would be able to produce 46 megawatt of power as well as generate 230 tons of steam per hour. The ERB confirmed through an emailed statement the said construction and projected that the plant would go online by early next year.

The said contract is the second of its kind in Brazil for Dow Chemical, who is currently constructing the Santa Vitoria ethanol mill in partnership with Mitsui & Co. The ERB official providing the details sought anonymity citing company policy.

The ERB had agreed last December 2010 to construct a BRL265 million wood fired plant for steam production to a Dow factory located in the northeastern city of Aratu. The project was confirmed in the ERB website.
