In a WordPress blog post, web development company Automattic, Inc announced today that it has acquires content sharing technology startup Cloudup. The technology, which is currently in beta phase, would help share content like videos, links, images, music and documents in an easy, drag and drop platform. Automattic is the parent company of the open source blogging and content management system service provider WordPress.
The acquisition of the startup by Automattic would reportedly help bolster WordPress in its goal to improve its virtual editor. Automatic wrote in its announcement, "Another exciting feature our new friends from Cloudup will help build is a real-time collaborative editing experience. What Google Docs has done with documents, we believe we can do with blog posts. We have some big ideas on what we can do in this space, and we'll be incorporating these efforts into the WordPress.com visual editor in the coming months."
Financial details of the acquisition had not been made public. Although Cloudup would remain in its beta phase, Automattic would be accepting 5,000 extra beta users for Cloudup via its website.
