In the battle of the app stores, Google Play beats iOS App Store, for now. Here are details of the quarter 2 of 2013 round, according to App Annie Index:

In terms of app downloads, Google Play wins. Google's apps were downloaded 10% more than Apple's apps. Top countries that downloaded Google apps were India and Brazil, which indicated Google Play's strong leadership positions in emerging markets. Meanwhile, Russia rose by six spots to no. 5 in terms of download rankings.

Games continue to be the most downloaded app category in the quarter. This was followed by entertainment, photo and video, lifestyle, and utilities apps. Lifestyle apps moved one spot higher, while utilities apps moved down one spot.

When it comes to revenue though, iOS App Store takes the lead. There was still a wide gap between what Apple was earning than what Google was making from apps. Apple earned 2.3 times more than Google.
