The Android is unmistakably the king of the tablet market. Strategy Analytics has data and figures to back this statement.

The Android had 67% share in the global tablet market during the first quarter of the year. In this particular quarter, tablet shipments amounted to 57.1 million units. In comparison to the share of Android in the market during the same quarter a year ago, this represented a market growth of 15.6%.

The iPad was a big factor to this growth. The iPad's share in the market decreased from 47.2% in the second quarter of 2012 to 28.3% during the same period this year.

"Strategy Analytics didn't offer a whole lot of analysis as to why Android is surging at the expense of the iPad, but we imagine it's because there are now a number of affordable name-brand slates to choose from, tablets like the Memo Pad HD from Asus that sell for a mere $150. Even the iPad mini can't touch that price tag," stated MaximumPC.
