Johnny Depp has been keeping a low profile since his divorce from Amber Heard, but the actor couldn't resist making a surprise appearance at an event honoring his friend, Harry Dean Stanton.

Depp, 53, made an unannounced appearance Sunday night at The Ace Hotel Theater in Los Angeles, where a host of actors and musicians were on hand to celebrate the Vidiots foundation presenting Stanton, 90, with the first ever Harry Dean Stanton Award.

In late May 2016, less than a week after Amber Heard filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, citing irreconcilable differences and asking for spousal support, she showed up at a Los Angeles courthouse with a bruise near her right eye that she claimed was a result of Depp throwing a cell phone at her face.

Heard, 30, was granted a temporary restraining order against the 52-year-old actor; all of this occurred just a few days after Depp's mother, Betty Sue Palmer, died after battling a long illness.

From their on-set meeting in 2009, through their four years as a couple beginning in 2012, to the current domestic abuse allegations Heard filed against Depp.

In October of 2009, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard met on a set of the film where they had played each others love interests.

In June 22, after Depp's splits with his partner of 14 years and the mother of his two children, French actress Vanessa Paradis, the actor had begun seeing Heard then.

January of the year 2014, the two couple had officially announced Depp and Heard's engagement and on February 3 , 2015 they got married and now on May 2016 the rumors had confirmed that the two got separated and divorced.

The actor has rarely been spotted since his split from Heard, and was last seen back in August climbing aboard Saudi Prince Abdulaziz's yacht in Ibiza, Spain. Depp will most likely be amping up his public appearances as he begins to promote his new film, Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which just debuted its first trailer.
