Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the Google developed operating system, has doubled its market share compared to that in March. Data compiled on April 4 after gathering in a seven-day period, suggests that its market stake has grown from 2.3% to 4.6% within span of a month.

The compiled data also suggests a decline in the number of devices powered by Android Lollypop and Android Kitkat. Though eroding, but still Android Lollipop leads the market with 35.8% market staked followed by Android Kitkat occupying 33.4%, reports International Business Times citing latest statistics furnished in the Google dashboard as the source.

Lollipop has skidded from market share of 36.1% while Kitkat from 34.3% recorded in March. Usage of Jelly Bean has been reduced from 22.3% in March to 21.3% and Ice Cream Sandwich from 2.3% to 2.2%. Meanwhile Gingerbread and Froyo maintain their market chunks in place at 2.6% and 0.1% respectively, reports Android Central also citing Google dashboard as the source.

The Google developed operating system has been powering a number of Android devices all over the world. Since released in October last year, Marshmallow has already reached to major handsets ranging from Samsung's Galaxy S series as well as Galaxy Note series to Xperia Z5 series. It has also stepped towards devices from other developers in the market such as LG, HTC and Motorola, according to a report published in Nashville Chatter.

The statistics suggest rolling of Android Marshmallow gains momentum even though Google gets ready launching its updated version, Android N at any time this year. The Google developed Android operating software witness series of hurdles prior to reach the end users unlike Apple.

For instance, Nexus phones appear the first in receiving any latest software while other brands require longer duration to update their models. This is because consumer feedback is required update customized interfaces.

Xiaomi, Motorola and many other Android makers are just embracing with the Marshmallow niche and more developers are expected to join the list in coming days. Keeping its rising trend in mind, analysts welcome the steady increase in the market chunk of Marshmallow.

Despite achieving 100% growth within a month, analysts have however, opine that the figure is still very meager compared to the huge number of Android devices being used in the market. The achieved market share still remains lower compared to that recorded for Android Lollipop (5.4%) during the same period of the previous year.

Updates of Android operating system usually require considerably higher duration to reach the end users. Acknowledging the industry odd, Android Marshmallow has been growing gradually, through recorded 100% percent in just a month. However, analysts still consider the market stake at 4.6% as very meager since Lollipop retained higher percentage compared to the same period of the previous year.
