He may be an ageless vampire in the hit CW's supernatural drama, "The Vampire Diaries," but off screen, actor Ian Somerhalder just turned 37.

Born on December 8, 1978, this Hollywood hunk proves that age is just a number and his looks remain superior. But of course he does not just have a great bod, but bears a good heart too. The philanthropist that he is, Somerhalder makes use of the occasion to promote his foundation.

Moments before his birthday, Somerhalder uploaded an Instagram photo of him sitting by a lake as he looks at the nature around him. Fans immediately flooded the actor with comments expressing their love for him as well as wishing him a happy birthday. But just as he looks away from the camera and stares at his surroundings, he also seems eager to get his fans to take part in his environmental concern.

ISF or Ian Somerhalder Foundation is founded by the actor himself rooted from his passion and concern for the environment. Somerhalder expressed his thanks to those who supported the foundation and made his birthday wish come true.

Weirdly and a tad disappointingly, there hasn't been any big surprise or whatnot coming from the actor's wife, Nikki Reed. The actress's social media accounts didn't even have a hint of her celebrating with Somerhalder for the occasion. Although, she was busy enough retweeting posts dedicated for animal preservation and a couple of Somerhalder's Choice Awards, the actress is yet to give a shout-out or do something for his birthday. Or maybe she already did, but just privately and exclusively for her husband. What do we know?
