Companies that provide digital content, such as social media platforms or news websites, are starting to incorporate gaming elements into their services. The latest to do so is LinkedIn, which announced that it has expanded its services into the gaming industry, launching three puzzle games: Pinpoint, Queens, and Crossclimb-accessible on desktop and mobile platforms, according to The Verge.

These innovative additions to LinkedIn's platform offer users a daily dose of gaming, complete with high scores, daily streak tracking, leaderboards, and the ability to see who within their network has also participated. This strategic move is designed to enhance user interest and frequency of platform visits, particularly in the face of a growing number of online job portals.

LinkedIn's strategic decision to incorporate gaming elements into its platform is not just a trend-following move. It's a well-thought-out strategy that aligns with the company's goal of fostering deeper relationships within professional networks, while also injecting a sense of fun and interaction into the workplace environment.

Besides workplace engagement, LinkedIn has already ventured into the influencer marketing industry, as reported by VCPost. This time, it is introducing 'Thought Leader Ads' that is set to compete with TikTok and Instagram.

Aside from LinkedIn, several other companies are incorporating gaming elements into their platforms to enhance user engagement and retention. For instance, The New York Times offers subscription packages with access to their games, such as Wordle, alongside their news content.

Netflix has also expanded into gaming, offering exclusive mobile versions of popular games like Hades and Sonic Mania Plus. Hearst, a publisher of magazines and newspapers, also acquired Puzzmo, a puzzle game platform, to provide gaming experiences to its audience.
