Technology giant Apple has clinched the top spot as Singapore's best employer for 2024, according to a survey conducted by global research company Statista and published Monday by The Straits Times.

Apple scored an impressive 8.82 out of 10. Google, another tech giant, ranked second with a score of 8.66, while Asia Pacific Breweries (Heineken Asia Pacific) secured the third position with a score of 8.63.

The survey involved over 14,000 employees from over 2,000 employers across 27 industry sectors. Apple's ranking is based on employees' willingness to recommend their employer and other employers within their industries.

Factors Influencing Employee Satisfaction

The survey results indicated that dissatisfaction with work-life balance played a major role in influencing employee turnover rates, with an increasing emphasis on salary also noted as an essential factor.

The increased focus on work-life balance is partly attributed to the expansion of digital connectivity, making it easier for work to infringe on personal time, noted Dr. David Leong, managing director of human resources advisory firm PeopleWorldwide Consulting, as reported by The Strait Times.

Consequently, setting clear boundaries between personal and professional life has become increasingly crucial.

Emphasis on Work-Life Balance

The survey highlighted an increased emphasis on work-life balance among employees, alongside a noticeable improvement in aspects such as work atmosphere and development potential, especially in fast-moving consumer goods companies and the travel and service sector.

Jana Meusel, team lead for employer analysis at Statista, attributed this improvement to the general recovery of these sectors, such as the rising travel economy post-pandemic.

Dr. Leong also noted the lower scores in development potential, indicating that dissatisfaction with on-site training could be linked to shifts in workplace dynamics, such as the widespread adoption of remote work.

Moreover, the survey found that salary satisfaction has become increasingly important, mirroring global trends following economic uncertainties and inflation.

Other popular brands that made it to the top 10 include Starbucks Coffee Singapore (7th place), The LEGO Group (8th) and UNIQLO (9th).
